REEDURBAN IS RATED "EXCELLENT!"

It is with great pride in our staff, students, and parents that we formally that Reedurban has been rated an "EXCELLENT" school building by the Ohio Department of Education!  This is the highest rating a school building or district can achieve, and we are delighted to have been able to serve our families so well.  Last year, nine specific areas were evaluated at the elementary level to determine building ratings.  These areas were:

Grade 3                        Reading and Math

Grade 4                        Reading, Math and Writing

Grade 5                        Reading, Math, Social Studies and Science

Grades 1-5                   Attendance

Reedurban met and exceeded the criteria in every single area.  In fact, our 4th Grade Math Achievement Test scores were the highest in the school district!

Although formal testing occurred in the grade levels listed above, all of our staff members played a vital role in this outstanding accomplishment.  Our staff members work as a team in grades K-5 not only amongst themselves, but also with parents, students, and other Perry and Stark County staff to help our students achieve all that they can achieve.

"Perry Pride" holds "A Passion for Excellence," and we are thrilled to live up to the brand.  It is because we work together that we are able to achieve so much.  Our teachers' dedication to children and teamwork beautifully illustrates this year's them, because we all know firsthand that "Educating Everyone Takes Everyone."

Thank you, parents, for being such a valuable member of our team!  We are looking forward to another successful school year.

BREAKFAST PROGRAM

Once again, Reedurban is happy to offer a school-wide Breakfast Program beginning the first day of school. The breakfast menu will be run on the back of the lunch menu every month.  Breakfast is open to all students.

Breakfast will cost $.75.  Students on reduced price lunches will pay $.30.  Students on free lunches will pay nothing.  Students who qualified for free or reduced lunch benefits at the end of last school year will be approved for free/reduced breakfast and lunch for the first 20 days of school.  New free/reduced lunch applications will be sent home the first day of school.  Please remember to submit your new application ASAP.

Reedurban will open for breakfast at 8:15 AM.  Students who ride the bus will enter the building through the busport. Students who are dropped off will enter through the back recess doors only.  For security and safety reasons, no parent who drops off a child in the morning may use the busport entrance.  Also, no students may be admitted late to breakfast.

Reedurban would like to thank the following personnel for making this program a reality for our students:  District Food Services Director Connie Ramsey, and Reedurban cafeteria staff members Amy Barrick (manager), Darlene Nicholas, Sherry Morrison, and Stacy Van Dress. These ladies truly care about making a difference in the lives of our students.

SCHOOL-WIDE DISCIPLINE PROGRAM

After implementing a school wide Discipline Program last year, we are delighted to announce that it was hugely successful.  It will continue this year with even more incentives to motivate our students.

When students make poor behavior choices, everyone suffers--both at home and at school.  We are committed to providing incentives for our students to make wise choices so that they become motivated to "do the right thing" on their own.  We know that our parents will support us in our efforts as we implement our new plan this year.  Our parents' involvement always makes all the difference in the world.

A BRIEF OVERVIEW...

GREEN = A great or good day!  (No more than a verbal warning)

GOLD = A written warning--You need to sign and return warning cards. (The number 1 on the corner of the card indicates that one warning card was issued; the number 2 indicates that 2 warnings cards were issued and both cards need signed.)

BLUE = Detention--You need to sign and return this card and any accompanying Detention Notices

PINK= An office referral was made for a more serious offense that required immediate attention.

For this program to be as successful as it has been in other Perry and Ohio schools, our parents' involvement is essential.  We ask that all parents spend some quality time with their children nightly to review the Home Folder, praise good choices, set expectations for improvement, and encourage success.  Success breeds motivation--and that is what we want to see!

STUDENT-CENTERED MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS

Morning announcements will continue to feature the "Birthday Bunch"--Students who are celebrating birthdays that day or one day in the summer.  Students will be called individually to the office for birthday recognition, a birthday pencil, and the opportunity to lead the school in the "Pledge of Allegiance."  Patriotic songs will also be played every morning to encourage the students to practice good citizenship and learn their state music and social studies standards.  The patriotic songs learned will then be incorporated into Reedurban's annual Veteran's Day Assembly and Powerpoint presentation.  A huge thank you is in order to vocal music instructor, Mrs. Linda Davis, for coordinating and organizing this lovely format.  We are thrilled to feature our students more prominently and personally this year during our daily opening exercises.

BOOK ROOM

Reedurban has a "Book Room" off of our main library that houses hundreds of readers that are leveled and categorized according to guided reading and skill groups.  Teachers, and students, access these materials to support their work in reading intervention, enrichment, and support.  This Book Room will further enhances the Balanced Literacy Initiatives that Reedurban Elementary has worked so hard to implement over the past 3 years.  A committee of dedicated staff members worked hard to make this dream a reality for our school.  Reedurban's outstanding work in the area of literacy is something of which we are very proud!
