John Richard was raised in Stark County, graduating from Sandy Valley High School. He completed his undergraduate work at Mount Union College and his Doctorate degree at the University of Akron with an emphasis on leadership. John began his career as a teacher of learning disabled students. Soon after, he pursued and held the administrative positions of assistant principal, principal, director of personnel, assistant super- intendent, and superintendent. He has been the superintendent for Perry Local School for four years. Currently, he is participating on the Ohio Writing Team to develop a model superintendent evaluation system. John is also very active in the community serving as a member of the Perry Township Rotary; Meyer's Lake YMCA board member; and United Way volunteer.
