Peer Protection Program Data
1st Semester (1st and 2nd Nine Weeks)
2008-2009
At the end of each nine weeks, students participated in the Peer Protection Program by completing survey’s which identified bullies, victims, and “hot spots” in the building. Data from these surveys is processed each nine weeks. Following the first nine-week data collection, lists of the three areas assessed were provided to administrators, faculty, and staff. Administrators met with and called parents of those students who were listed on the bully list four or more times while the school counselors met with students who were identified as victims 3 or more times.
Data from the first nine-week surveys revealed that 56 students were identified by their peers as participating in bullying behaviors as defined by the counseling staff. Of these 56 students, 6 were listed three or more times. Identified students who participated in bullying behavior decreased to 41 in the second nine week surveys with 6 students mentioned three or more times. Of the 6 students who were mentioned multiple times in the first nine weeks, 2 were not identified in the second nine weeks, 3 decreased bullying behavior over 50%, and one remained the same. Five of the six students mentioned as participating in bullying behaviors second nine weeks were identified at least 50% more times than from the first nine weeks (i.e. identified 2 times first nine weeks and 4 times second nine weeks). As a result, these five students were not individually addressed by administration for bullying behaviors first nine weeks.
There were 43 students listed as victims for the first nine-week grading period and this was reduced to 28 students being listed second nine weeks.
Five locations were identified by students as hot spots for bullying behaviors: classroom, hallway, restrooms, lunch, and on the bus. Two of these locations were identified at least 50% less second weeks. Halls & classroom increased and lunch remained the same.
