Grade 3: This is the first year that the students check books out from the entire library.  They learn how to access the library catalog using the computer and Catjr.  They also begin receiving instruction on the Dewey Decimal System.  How the books are categorized by subject by assigning numbers in the non-fiction section, books are in alphabetic order by authors last name in the Easy and Fiction sections, and Biographies are in order by the last name of the person the book is written about.

Grades 4 & 5:  Students check books out from all sections of the library.  They really become familiar with using the computers to find library information, they practice using the Dewey Decimal System as well as understanding all a library has to offer.

Grade 5:  We are getting better aquainted with our on-line catalog Catjr. and learning the get the most out of our library.  We are getting prepared for 6th grade by learning how to find information for bibliographies and reports by using a system to keep notes and information on paper that will be available to us in the library at Pfeiffer.

Each week we have story time or a learning activity in the library.  Many times the stories are interactive which really get the kids involved!  We use these activities to reinforce the  ODE School Library Guidelines.

Library Achievement Award

ONE Library Passport will be given to all students' grades 3-5.  Do not loose this Passport!  No replacements will be given!  This is the only record of your reading!!!

·    Each student has the opportunity to complete reading a book in 10 different areas or genre's of the library. 
·    This reading is in addition to regular school assignments! 
·    Read on your level! 
·    Only books from Reedurban Library qualify!
·    Upon completion of reading a book from a passport  section, a parent must sign that the required reading was completed. 
·    The Passport will then be stamped in the library and the  student may "visit" (choose another book) another section or area.  No more than 2 areas at a time will be stamped!!!
·    When all 10 areas of the passport have been stamped and all required reading is complete the Passport should be turned in to the librarian.  Students will be added to the "Reader's are Leaders" bulletin board in the library.  Students will then be rewarded with a medal for Achievement at the end of year Awards Ceremony. 



Grades 3-5
