Rewards and Consequences
I have discussed the importance of appropriate behavior with the students. To reinforce good behavioral choices, I will be using a classroom reward system. Your child will earn a Behavioral Bonus Buck during each social studies class that she/he follows my classroom rules. Behavioral Bonus Bucks will also be awarded for acts of exemplary citizenship or outstanding behavior. Behavior Bonus Bucks can be used to purchase a variety of privileges and rewards in my classroom.
However, there are some behaviors which carry with them “fines.” Such behaviors include, but are not limited to, the following: incomplete homework, lack of required materials, disrespect, breaking classroom safety rules, lying, and cheating. Fines will be paid in Behavior Bonus Bucks. Any student who goes in debt 15 Behavior Bonus Bucks will be assigned a detention to erase their debt. I will contact you by phone or letter/email if your child’s behavior hinders the learning process or if misconduct occurs three or more times. If a student causes numerous disruptions or engages in a behavior which might cause injury, she/he will be referred to the assistant principal for further disciplinary action.
Behavior Bucks
In our class we use the Behavior Bonus Bucks Reward System. You always have the opportunity to earn Behavior Bonus Bucks as an individual or with your group. Each student is given a buck for each day that he/she is following our classroom expectations. Students may receive additional Bucks by positively participating in class, helping out with classroom responsibilities, or showing any other types of outstanding behavior in our classroom! Bucks can be used to purchase a variety of rewards and privileges in our classroom. Again, see the attached sheet for a list of these items and privileges available to be purchased.
Behavior Bonus Bucks are used in these situations too. You will be fined for behaviors that are disruptive to the learning process in our classroom. The teacher will ask you to hand over bucks as a “FINE” for any of the following behaviors: incomplete homework, unprepared to class, disrespect, lying cheating, or any other behaviors that make our classroom unsafe or unfit for learning. Please see attached sheet for a list of some common fines. Any Student who goes into “DEBT’, (-15) meaning he/she does not have any Bucks available to pay a fine, will be assigned a DETENTION. The detention will erase the debt. I will contact your parents/guardians by phone, letter or email if you have a repeated problem with “debt”. If you choose to cause numerous disruptions or engage in behavior that I consider being dangerous for yourself or others you will be referred to the Assistant Principal for further disciplinary action.
