Meeting Minutes
Old Business:
Treasurer’s report:
Recently paid bills:
$150 for subway passes for the Harvard trip
$23 pizza and pop for debate team last Friday (Kathy P paid for speech team’s
pizza)
$2500 for judges. (May need $500 more for judges.)
Future bills:
After prom solicitation. Last year gave $50/100. Need to decide on how much to
give.
Awards
Current balance: about $3000.
Harvard trip:
Trip was worthwhile. Students learned a lot. Suggest it again for next year if
schedule works out.
New business:
Fund raisers:
East of Chicago pizza – April 20-21 and 27-28. (Mon and Tues). If we get $500 in
sales we receive 10%. Over $500 we receive 15%. Usually can make $500 in one
night. Note: patrons must mention Perry Speech to receive credit.
Handel’s – Thursday, May 14. We make 20% no matter what the amount of sales.
Fliers will be printed/distributed and e-mailed. Note: patrons must bring fliers
to receive credit. Fliers may not be distributed to people waiting in line at
Handel’s. We need to call a week in advance to let them know potential volume.
Last year people waited an hour in line.
Blood drive – April 27- May 6. Aultman Hospital (downtown Canton) is open on
Saturdays, but the West and North branches are not. Note: donors must record the
number 40068 on the form to receive credit. Kathy Meeks questioned whether or
not we should do the blood drive on these dates as it is the same timeframe as
the East of Chicago fundraiser. Since the blood donation is not an expense,
Karen Lanka motioned we proceed with drive. Cathy Ferrell seconded. Motion
passed. We will receive fliers that will be printed/distributed and e-mailed.
The plan is to call booster members ahead of time and ask for a commitment to
give. Then call again the night before it begins to remind them, and ask that
they call us after they give.
Dairy Queen – probably the end of May.
Musical – March 25-29th. Only a matinee on Sunday; no evening show this year.
Amy Roe reported that the carnations cost 32-36 cents each, but will be priced
at $1. Last year we ran out. Need to order them a week before. 300 carnations
will be ordered for the first group (Wednesday), and a second group will be
ordered later in the week. The flowers will be kept in the cooler in cafeteria.
Amy Roe motioned that we also sell roses. Barb Hostetler seconded. Motion
passed. 150 roses will be ordered for Wednesday provided the price is not more
than $1.25 each. We would charge $2 per rose. A purchase order is needed from
the Perry Board of Education. Last year Cheryl Kendig paid out of pocket and
Cathy Ferrell reimbursed her. Cathy will give ID number or they can use the
Perry Board number and have it forwarded to the Speech Boosters.
Cookies – Cost is $10 per dozen; all wrapped. Will be sold for $2 each or 3 for
$5. Last year ordered 150 dozen and had a lot let over. We will order 2 dozen
less per performance (total of 135 dozen). Give bill to Kathy P or Cathy F.
Water bottles – We will also sell water bottles for $1 each and McDonalds punch
for 50 cents. Cups are included. 12 oz. water bottles are donated. Also need
donations for napkins. Marsha Craig and Amy Roe will be calling booster members
for the donations.
