Mrs. Unferdorfer

Hello, my name is Laura Unferdorfer. I teach one of the two preschool classes for Perry Local. My Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education is from Bowling Green State University. I also have a Master’s Degree in Special Education for Early Education of the Handicapped from Kent State University. I have taught preschool in Perry for thirteen years. Before that I taught Resource Room and self-contained special education classes with 4th – 6th graders in Perry. I also taught at East Canton for three years, and in Texas for two years, prior to working in Perry.

My class is mostly the three year olds and younger four year olds. We help children transition to the preschool setting, learn to share and take turns, and beginning pre-academic skills. The children learn to recognize their printed name, colors, shapes, counting to 10, naming some letters, rhyming words, and following directions. All of the learning is through games, songs and hands-on activities.

For those interested: my husband, Jim, and I have been married 27 years. He is a middle school band director at Massillon. We have two children. Andy is a Senior at Mount Union College, majoring in computer programming and Japanese. Beth is a Freshman at Bowling Green State University, majoring in music education. We have a Sheltie named Button, a parakeet named Simon, and a corn snake named Fang. I enjoy reading, sewing, and bird-watching in my spare time.

Mrs. Judy Saylor is my classroom aide. She has been a Perry employee for 23 years, 20 years as a preschool aide. Her husband, Fred, is retired from Timken, and a great model train enthusiast. She has two adult children, Julie and Freddy, who are both teachers. The Saylor family are all Perry grads!  She also has three adorable grandchildren, Jake, Joel, and Jenna.
